How Often Should You Clean Each Part of Your Home?

Most people do not need to clean more — they need to clean in a more predictable order. When every job has a slot, nothing quietly builds up into a full day's work. Here is the rhythm we use when we build a checklist for a customer's home.
Weekly: the jobs that stop everything else getting worse
These are the tasks where skipping a week is immediately visible, and where dirt starts to bond to the surface if it is left.
- Kitchen worktops, sink and hob, plus the fronts of appliances
- Bathroom shower, bath, basin and toilet — including the taps
- Vacuum carpets and mop hard floors in the rooms you use daily
- Dust the surfaces at eye level and below, where it shows most
- Empty bins and replace liners
Monthly: the jobs people forget until guests arrive
None of these are urgent on their own, which is exactly why they slip. Doing one or two each week over a month is far easier than a single marathon.
- Skirting boards, door frames and light switches
- Inside the microwave and the fridge shelves
- Windows and mirrors, plus the inside of the shower screen
- Under and behind moveable furniture
- Washing machine drawer and filter
A few times a year: the deep-clean list
This is where a professional deep clean earns its money, because most of it needs time, the right products and a bit of patience rather than extra effort.
- Inside the oven, including the racks and the door glass
- Limescale on tiles, grout, screens and shower heads
- Carpets and upholstery
- Extractor filters and vents
- High ledges, curtain rails and light fittings
Where a cleaner fits into that schedule
A recurring visit is usually best spent on the weekly list, done consistently and thoroughly, so your own time goes on tidying rather than scrubbing. The deep-clean list then becomes an occasional one-off booking instead of something you never quite get to.
When we quote, we write the checklist down. That way you can see exactly which of these jobs are in your regular visit and which are booked separately.
